Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
Zaragoza in January is brisk and often grey, with highs around 11°C (51°F) and lows dropping to 2°C (35°F) at night. The Cierzo blows with particular frequency this month, so wind-appropriate layers matter more than the thermometer suggests.
February nudges slightly warmer, reaching 13°C (56°F) on good days, with nights still close to 3°C (38°F). Rainfall is minimal at around 20mm for the month, and on calm days the light has a clean, wintry clarity that makes the city's pale stone architecture look good.
The shift is noticeable in March. Highs climb to 17°C (63°F) and the first stretches of mild weather arrive, though cold snaps and Cierzo gusts remain possible. Rainfall ticks up slightly to around 28mm, mostly as brief showers rather than sustained rain.
April is one of the more comfortable months in Zaragoza, with highs of 20°C (68°F) and lows around 8°C (47°F). This is the wettest month of the year, relatively speaking, around 41mm, though that still means most days are dry, and the spring light across the Ebro gives the city a softness it loses in summer.
May extends the best of spring, with highs reaching 24°C (76°F) and evenings staying mild at 12°C (54°F). Rainfall matches April at around 41mm but tends to fall as occasional afternoon thunderstorms rather than persistent drizzle. This is Zaragoza at arguably its most livable.
The heat starts to make itself known in June. Highs hit 30°C (86°F) and the city moves into a slower summer rhythm. Outdoor terraces fill after 9pm, afternoon siestas make more practical sense. Rainfall drops back to 28mm and the sky is reliably clear most days.
July is the hottest month, with highs of 32°C (91°F) and lows staying around 18°C (65°F) even overnight. Rainfall is just 15mm. You could easily go the entire month without seeing a meaningful shower. Midday in Zaragoza in July requires either shade, air conditioning, or a very high heat tolerance.
Temperatures hold almost identical to July, highs of 32°C (90°F), lows of 18°C (65°F), and the dry heat continues with only 18mm of rainfall. Many locals leave for the coast, which gives the city an oddly quieter character in August than the heat alone would suggest.
September is the month Zaragoza seems to exhale. Highs ease to 27°C (81°F) while the nights cool to 15°C (59°F), and the light takes on the warm, angled quality of early autumn. Rainfall picks back up to 28mm, occasional storms. But the overall feel is of summer relaxing its grip.
October brings highs of 21°C (71°F) and lows around 11°C (52°F), with 33mm of rain spread across the month. This is excellent walking weather, and the smaller crowds mean the cathedral district and the covered market feel less pressured.
November cools noticeably, with highs of 15°C (59°F) and lows at 6°C (43°F). Rainfall holds at 33mm, and the Cierzo begins reasserting itself. The city's interior life, tapas bars, the teatro, the covered food market, becomes more central to any visit.
December in Zaragoza mirrors January in most practical respects. Highs around 11°C (51°F). Lows of 3°C (37°F). Minimal rainfall at 20mm. The Cierzo remains a constant companion. The Christmas market around the Basílica del Pilar draws domestic visitors. This gives the city an unusually lively quality for an otherwise quiet month.
